Jock Young made the move from non-league Lochgelly United straight into the First Division and did extremely well to bridge the gap.
A hard-tackling defender with a good turn of speed, he scored his one and only goal in February 1928 – a sensational wind-assisted free-kick from inside his own half which helped the Pars beat Dundee to reach the last eight of the Scottish Cup for the first time in their history.
Later that year he surprisingly returned to non-league football by joining Rhyl Athletic along with two other Dunfermline players.
